The next CONNECT Codeathon wil be held in Portland Oregon, November 19th and 20th. Some 150 developers from leading technology providers will be attending. The Nationwide Health Information Network is sponsoring the activity. CONNECT is an important software project which will allow easy access by healthcare providers to complex patient information. A significant amount of time and money is wasted when records are not available in a timely manner. Patients may have to have testing repeated or treatment delayed waiting for records to arrive. A network providing almost instantaneous access to patient data will remove many obstacles to improvements in medical care as well as a reduction in cost.
As at the last August meeting, OCI is once again providing technical expertise. OCI has been supporting the use of techniques which are platform neutral and enable the widest possible use of the CONNECT technology, without favoring one vendor over another. This will allow healthcare providers the continued use of their existing systems. OCI specializes in developing open and portable systems.
Dr. Moshiri, CEO of OCI commented: "We have worked on many significant projects but rarely have we worked on something with such a widespread benefit to the country. When we work on this we can feel we are making a difference. The current healthcare debate does not give sufficient credit to the role technology can play in improving the nation's health delivery system."
