UKSoccershop Warning of Christmas Stock Shortages

"It's been a difficult year stock wise," he said. "The impact of the credit crunch meant that for Christmas 2008 all retailers were left with surplus stocks as their sales were hit. This meant that shirts were being sold off at or below the wholesale price as retailers just tried to get cash back for stock that wouldn't otherwise have sold at the normal retail price."

"Of course the problem with that is that if all retailers are trying to clear the same shirts, it gets to a stage where the market place becomes flooded and it gets difficult to sell the shirts at any price."

"With this in mind, both the retailers and the manufacturers themselves were a lot more guarded than usual when ordering our stock for the 2009-10 season and as a result there are major shortages in the marketplace, with a number of teams sold out worldwide for large periods of time."

Worst hit has been the Barcelona and Real Madrid shirts, with the formers Champions League success and Real Madrid's new Galactico era meaning that both teams shirts have been unavailable for months at a time.

"I've never seen anything like it", said Simon. "The demand is massively outstripping supply and while new stock will arrive eventually, it's selling out on pre-order. As frustrating as it is for customers, the best way to get these shirts for Christmas is to order now and to accept that you might have to wait a long time to get it. We hope the situation will change in future, but there are no guaranteees."
