Tourism & Business Trade Show


Tourism and fishing are the the life blood of Puerto Peñasco, Rocky Point, on the Sea of Cortez.  The residences and business owners of this small but growing town are dependent on the U.S. dollars of visitor just across the border for their livelihood.  When bad news is picked up by the U.S. media of drug violence, swine flu outbreak, earthquakes, or shoot outs, the economic consequences can be quite sever for this beach resort community.

Business owners in Puerto Peñasco need visitors to fill the resorts, hotels, rental homes and casitas, restaurants and bars. Puerto Peñasco businesses need visitors to rent cars, go on our fishing boats and sunset cruises, to enjoy the sandy beach and all of the other wonderful activities that Rocky Point, Mexico has to offer. They need visitors to create a sustainable economy.

Russ & Naomi Black of Peñasco Recreation are member’s of the Rocky Point business community and the newly formed Rocky Point Tourism and Visitor’s Bureau. They are currently organizing a promotional campaign called “Promotions Para Peñasco” to promote Puerto Peñasco that will debut at series of tourism trade shows this fall and winter. The shows will be held in Nevada, Arizona and California beginning in September 2009. Each show focuses on a diverse group: (1) travel retailers such as travel agents, (2) winter visitors & Arizona travelers, and (3) our new “closer-than-ever” California audience!  

The Blacks are actively requesting sponsorship from local businesses to cover the trade show costs. Sponsors may provide business cards or sales literature about their businesses, show “giveaways”, travel & safety information, items for an attractive booth display, or “comp” accommodations, meals or activities to offer travel agents who are seriously interested in visiting & experiencing Puerto Peñasco first hand.

The first 3-day show they will be attending is THETRADESHOW (Travel Retailing and Destination Expo) held mid-September in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is focused specifically towards 2,000 travel agents and other travel retailers in the tourism field which should get promotions off to a good start for this winter season.

The Blacks have traveled and lived in Mexico for over 25 years. Their past business included an RV Caravan business which brought hundreds of “first-time to Mexico” travelers to Peñasco and beyond. Through this experience, the Blacks know the mind-set of the timid Mexico traveler. They are also experienced trade show exhibitors. This promotional campaign should be good for everyone in traveling or conducting business in Puerto Penasco, Rocky Point, Mexico.
