| Yorkshire’s Going Back To School To Learn British Sign LanguageThe Yorkshire public is going 'back to school' as Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People starts enrolment for its British Sign Language (BSL) courses.
By: Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People Enrolment has started at Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People where the public can build upon their existing communicative skills and develop a deeper understanding of the Deaf community through a series of taught courses. With around 1000 Deaf people currently living in the region and using BSL as their first language, enrolment on one of the Society’s courses will ensure that you can communicate with everyone equally and effectively. Jonathan Field, strategic development manager at Leeds Society’s interpreting service, said: “Learning BSL is exciting and opens up a whole new world of communication. Our courses really are second-to-none, taught by some of the best tutors in the area. “Whether you are a complete beginner or nearly fluent our courses can have you signing in no time.” “Our courses are also perfect for those who wish to learn as a hobby or purely to develop a new skill. BSL is a very fulfilling language to learn and Deaf people appreciate any attempt to communicate, even if it is just a few signs.” There are courses to suit all abilities and experience, ranging from short beginner and taster courses, right through to levels 1, 2 and 3 in BSL. Last date for enrolment is 14th September.
