Seacroft Colts FC Community Club and Leeds Deaf FC will be working with Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People to provide football coaching to young aspiring Deaf football players.
Leeds Deaf FC have joined forces with Seacroft Colts to provide more of the region’s deaf children the chance to hone their sports skills with some of Seacroft Colts’ experienced coaches and help them reach their goals.
Training sessions will start on Thursday 12th November 2009, taking place every Thursday thereafter at City of Leeds School from 6 – 9pm, and costs just £2.50 per player.
Paul Young from Leeds Deaf FC said: “Our club has been in existence for 146 years and we have some exceptional budding talent here at the Society. This is a great opportunity for Deaf children to get involved in a community-based activity that will boost their confidence and facilitate integration into wider society.”
Barbara Fraher, Youth Development Officer at Leeds Society for Deaf and Blind People, added: “The emphasis in the training sessions will not be on competition, but will centre on improving individual performance of all the children and young people taking part and improving their football skills on an individual basis.”
Paul Gorman, from Seacroft Colts FC, added: “It’s a privilege to be working with a charity that does so much for its service users, and it’s fantastic for us to give something back. Our football club is one where each player’s growth is at the forefront of the club’s long term development policy, rather than focusing purely on winning cups and leagues.
“We’re really looking forward to creating a new pathway for Deaf players to participate in the beautiful game.”
Children will be trained by F.A. qualified coaches that are also registered first aiders and CRB-screened. Additional signing staff will be available at the sessions.
