Aug. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- On August 22nd, the community of Monmouth County will join together to battle an elusive and life-impairing disorder that may affect 1 out of every 150 children in America. Autism’s affect on a child’s life is devastating and prevents a child from experiencing human interaction to its fullest. Even more painful is that autistic children live with the disease for decades, since Autism and its various milder forms are not life-threatening.

Autism is a highly variable brain development disorder which impairs a child’s social communication and ability to interact with others. In many cases, it affects children’s language development and inhibits a development of intuitions that many people take for granted, such as understanding non-verbal communication. Children with autism tend to exhibit repetitive and compulsive behaviors, like stacking and lining up objects, repetitive body movements like hand-flapping and head-rolling, self-injury, and a strong avoidance of eye contact.

Now, our community is coming together to take a stand for those suffering from this disorder.  On August 22nd at 9:00 am, everyone will join together at Chris's River View Plaza Marina, Red Bank, to take their boats around Lady Liberty and back down the Navesink. Riders will drive together as a group, and food and activities will be available back at the Marina. All proceeds from the event will go to "Improving Middletown's Program for Autistic Children Together." Sponsor a Wave Runner, participate, or support this great cause however you can!
