Sustainability is the Key! Association of Professional Landscape Designers® Annual Conference

The APLD will host their annual conference in Portland July 13-19. This fantastic landscape design conference and tours are open to the public. Covering the trends in landscape design, sustainability, permaculture, using edibles and greenroofs.
 
July 9, 2009 - PRLog -- Bringing green design, majestic nature and urban pioneering together is the theme of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD) Annual Conference in Portland, Ore. July 13-19.  

More than 200 professional landscape designers are expected to attend this information-rich conference being held at the Portland Crown Plaza and Convention Center. Tours of some of Portland’s top public and private gardens are also planned.

The conference highlights the latest trends in landscape design.   Workshops span such timely topics as sustainability, permaculture, using ornamental edibles and green roofs. A full list of conference workshops, garden tours and exhibitor showcase participants is available at www.apld.org.

“Portland is the perfect location for the APLD Conference,” says Judy Nauseef, president of APLD.  “It was voted the most sustainable city in the United States in 2008, and it continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability through green roofs, green building and cutting edge design.”

“Landscape designers are drawn to natural beauty, and Portland embodies how nature and urban design can work hand-in-hand,“ says Denise Calabrese, executive director of APLD.   “Sustainability is becoming a paramount concern to both commercial and residential clients.”

On Friday evening, APLD will present its Annual Landscape Design Awards and celebrate its 20th anniversary at Portland's landmark Governor Hotel. Margie Grace, of Grace Design Associates will receive the Designer of the Year Award. Gold and Merit award winners will also be honored.  

The Association of Professional Landscape Designers is an international organization representing over 1,300 members in the United States, Canada, Great Britain and other countries. Its goal is to advance landscape design as an independent profession and to promote the recognition of landscape designers as highly qualified, dedicated professionals. APLD was founded in 1989 and is headquartered in Harrisburg, Pa.
