Amongst the presenters were former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder, and Attorney General Chris Koster. Stephen Field, the OCI Healthcare Practice Lead spoke on the ability of open source software to play a significant role in enabling equal access by all to an electronic health record based system. OCI’s approach focuses on the ability of patients to access their records from anywhere, allow them to shop for best of class services, avoid unnecessary redundant testing, and allow their caregivers rapid access to critical data. The key to this improved record access is an open source, secure, scalable health information exchange (HIE) based on industry standards that caregivers can use at very low cost to access the overall system.
Other OCI attendees were Dr Moshiri, CEO; Vafa Foroughi MD, OCI medical advisor; Steve Totten OCI Engineering Manager and the OCI Director of Business Development Malcolm Spence. Dr. Moshiri, who also took the opportunity to meet with Senate leadership, commented: “It is clear that health care is now front and center, as the US rebuilds its economy on a more competitive footing. I know we will bring the same benefits of open source to healthcare as we have done with Defense, Telecom and other industries.”
