Columbus fitness expert, Jason Yun, is sick and tired of hearing about a new, different, and extremely dangerous fad diet pop up every week. With 11 years experience of helping clients and athletes shape up and burn off hideous body fat fast, Yun knows a thing or two about diet and nutrition. He also knows why a lot of people fall victim to these false claims and promises that these fad diets bring.
Yun states ‘that these diets do nothing but set the person going on the diet for long-term failure and disappointment. Fad diets do nothing but help you lose weight very fast, but once you get off it the weight comes pouring back on and usually there will be more then you started with.”
Yun believes that people need to find a lifestyle approach to diet and nutrition. “People can’t be on these diets for too long, because of the devastating destruction of your body’s insides, and it brings your metabolism to a snail’s pace. That’s why you put weight back on fast once you do get off the diet.”
Below are some of Yun’s best tips for recognizing a fad diet:
One Food
If a diet states that you must eat just one food all of the time, or the majority of the time, then it is a fad diet. It takes approximately 5000 calories a day of a huge assortment of foods to get all the vitamins and minerals you need for the day. Simply focusing on one food will cause nutrient deficiencies quite quickly, and weight won’t be your only problem.
Ridiculous Claims
Or as the company hyping the diet calls them ‘miraculous’
Fasting
Otherwise known as not eating. This is the best thing you can do if you want to add body fat. It should be avoided at all costs. After you are done fasting the body is going to grab whatever you eat and turn it into fat. Plus your metabolism will be severely damaged to a point where it is hard to get it back to normal. Eating 5+ meals and snacks is your best bet for the combat of body fat.
