Greg Stivers, Vice President of Customer Technology for McKesson Medical-Surgical in Richmond, Virginia, has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors of the Health Industry Business Communications Council (HIBCC). The announcement was made by HIBCC President Robert Hankin at HIBCC’s December 2009 Board meeting in Phoenix, AZ.
Stivers has spent 18 years in key healthcare technology leadership roles. Between 2001 and 2003, he led Product and Business Development for Global Healthcare Exchange and held various committee leadership roles within standards organizations, including HECIC and CHeS. Prior to 2001, Mr. Stivers was responsible for Customer Technology for McKesson’s Pharmaceutical Group.
Stivers has been a member of HIBCC’s Board representing the Healthcare Distribution Management Association (HDMA) since August 2004. During his tenure on the Board, he has served on numerous key committees including the Executive Committee.
In related action, the Board appointed Patrick DeGrace, Director of Customer Care at Hospira, as Chair-elect and Claude Ritman, Executive Director at Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital, as Secretary/Treasurer. Outgoing chair Jeff Hutchison, Director of Information, Technology at Stryker, will serve two years as Immediate Past Chair.
HIBCC is an industry-sponsored, non-profit standards development organization (SDO) that maintains labeling standards for hospitals and their suppliers. It was founded in 1983 and has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
HIBCC’s bar code labeling standards are accredited by both ANSI and the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The HIBCC mission is to facilitate electronic commerce by developing appropriate standards for information exchange among healthcare trading partners. This mission is extended globally via a network of HIBCC offices located throughout the world.
