According to Dr. Penick Phillips-Cermak, "I first wrote Rajah and the Big Blue Ball ten years ago. I polished it by reading the story to my first and second grade students. They could quote the lines back to me. When they started to ask for the story by name, I knew that I had it right. Over the years the story has changed. It was difficult to get my vision to align with the dictates of my publisher, but we finally did it."
Written for ages 5-7 years, Rajah and the Big Blue Ball is about conquering fear. "There is nothing scary," said Dr. Mosetta. "But Rajah has to face a new situation. He wasn't sure that he could do it."
Dr. Penick Phillips-Cermak is an award nominated children's author for The Magic of Laven-Rock. She is currently writing a teaching manual for that book.
"I work with English as a Second Language students (ESL)," she said, "and, I love using my books as supplemental materials. The students seem to like the fact that I wrote them. It confirms what I tell them all the time that you can do whatever you set your mind and heart to do."
Rajah and the Big Blue Ball is her third release in the last 18 months.
