Over 15 business in the Portland-Salem Metro Areas are making it their business to battle hunger here in Oregon and their local communities. Joining the effort by participating in the 8th Annual Great Holiday Food Drive, these business are hoping to raise the equivalent of nearly 13,000 lbs of food for the hungry here in Oregon. All proceeds will be benefiting the Oregon Food Bank Network and Marion-Polk Food Share.
This annual event is happening now through Friday, December 12th. The donation drop sites include Oregon Community Credit Union Branches here in Portland & Salem, all 9 Arbor Custom Homes Neighborhoods around the Portland Metro area, Deschutes Brewery in NW Portland among a total of 30 locations around the Portland-Salem metropolitan areas. Over the last 7 years, the Annual Great Holiday Food Drive has raised over 64,305 lbs of food for Oregon Food Bank Network. Each year the donations raised steadily grow. Last year with help and support from the Portland & Salem communities, the Great Holiday Food Drive raised the equivalent of 11,739 lbs of food for the hungry here in the Portland-Salem Metro area of Oregon. This was an increase of 10% in donations over prior year totals! The goal this year is to increase donations by another 10% and raise over 12,915 lbs!
The food banks are always short on food during the holiday season regardless of economic situations and hardships. However, due to some of the toughest financial times our country has seen in decades, food shortages are at epidemic proportions. The Great Holiday Food Drive, along with local businesses throughout Portland & Salem are doing their part to fight the war on hunger.
