Digital Fountain Founder and CTO, Dr. Michael Luby, Named IEEE Fellow

Dr. Luby Recognized for Contributions to Theory and Practice of Iterative Coding

Dec. 2, 2008 - PRLog -- Digital Fountain, Inc., a leading provider of advanced standardized solutions for digital media delivery, today announced that Dr. Michael Luby, the company’s founder and chief technology officer, has been named an IEEE Fellow effective January 1, 2009, for contributions to the theory and practice of iterative coding.  A non-profit organization, IEEE is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology.

Recognizing the achievements of its members is an important part of the mission of the IEEE. Each year, following a rigorous evaluation procedure, the IEEE Fellow Committee recommends a select group of recipients for one of the Institute’s most prestigious honors, elevation to IEEE Fellow.

“I’m honored that the IEEE Fellow Committee has decided to recognize me in this way,” said Dr. Michael Luby, CTO of Digital Fountain. “I’m pleased to be associated with such an outstanding group of technology professionals, and look forward to my continued participation with the IEEE.”    

Dr. Luby has made breakthrough research contributions in the areas of coding theory, randomized algorithm design and analysis, communication technologies and cryptography. Prior to founding Digital Fountain, he was a professor of computer science at the University of Toronto and the University of California at Berkeley, and the leader of the Theory Group at the International Computer Science Institute. Michael is the inventor of Luby Transform (LT) codes, the unique breakthrough technology upon which the Digital Fountain products are based. Michael received his PhD in Theoretical Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley in 1983.
