Versatile Vision Inspection for the Photovoltaic Industry

Throughout the entire production process of solar cells and solar cells modules, VITRONIC Machine Vision’s inspection technology ensures state-of-the-art inspection.

Nov. 26, 2008 - PRLog -- As a manufacturer of machine vision system for diversified markets, VITRONIC has now raised the bar for solar panel inspection technologies. VITRONIC introduces its reliable expertise to this emerging market segment. In the production of solar cells and modules, Vitronic offers multiple vision solutions.  From raw silicon to finished cells and modules, VITRONIC systems meet quality production requirements and lower production costs.

The VITRONIC image-processing systems VINSPECsolar use unique integrations of sensors and illumination to optimize solar cell production.  Using line-scan and matrix camera sensor technologies, inspection is optimized for 100% inline inspection.  Depending on the production stage, high power LED’s or infrared lighting, is used with direct and diffused illumination methods to identify defects in the assembly of solar cells and wafers.

After important production steps, solar cells enter a VINSPECsolar inspection module designed to detect defects such as cracks, inclusions, holes, grooves, print flaws and even fingerprints on the surface of cells. This information is then recorded for immediate process optimization, for statistical analysis and used to trigger a production stop if fatal defects are detected.

“We’ve been providing vision solutions to the manufacturing industry since 1984, since three years our solar technology is improving the quality and production processes also in the solar industry.” stated Robert King, Vice President of VITRONIC. He continued, “This technology was first established in fast production lines in Germany. In 2008 we already could integrate some hundreds of VINSPECsolar systems into new production lines at four different locations within the United States.”
