Louisville, KY – Vitronic Machine Vision, one of the world's leading research-based machine vision companies, has announced the recipient of its first annual VINTEC Award 2008. Daimler AG, the manufacturer of Mercedes – Benz, received distinction in groundbreaking welding developments, at their engineering plant in Mettingen, Germany. Welded seams are now automatically inspected and repaired using VIROwsi; a weld inspection system from VITRONIC. During the EuroBLECH trade fair in Hannover, Dr.-Ing. Norbert Stein, President of VITRONIC, presented the VINTEC Award 2008 to Guenter Kasper, head of axle production at Daimler AG.

Since its installation in February 2007, more than 8 million welded seams have been automatically inspected and, if necessary, repaired. After successful implementation on the production line of the Mercedes C-Class, Daimler has now decided to use this unique solution on the new E-Class to remain in a leadership position relative to other automobile manufacturers.
About the Vitronic Machine Vision VINTEC Award 2008:
To qualify for a Vitronic Machine Vision VINTEC Award, applicants must provide improved unique ingenuity in welding processes; have successful implementation of a system on the production line; and have been in existence as an engineering group for at least five years. A panel of Vitronic engineers determined the winner based on a strong demonstration of ongoing success in providing improved welding concepts, commitment to serving the needs automobile manufacturing;
