Operation Helmet Hits 40,000 Milestone- Operation Helmet reached a major milestone: the 40,000th helmet upgrade kit has been sent to a US Army combat medic stationed in central Iraq.
By: Operation Helmet The today’s combat helmets worn by our troops are designed to protect our troops from gunfire and flying debris – not blasts – blasts which cause the signature wounds and injuries of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. A helmet upgrade kit consists of a set of replacement shock-absorbing pads which are as protective but more comfortable than the government-issued pads. “Troops e-mail us everyday asking for upgrade kits, to replace the hard, hot, uncomfortable pads that they call their “little bricks”. We are proud to able to do this with the help of real Americans who want to make a difference by helping our heroes - our troops - return home safe and sound,” says Robert Meaders, M.D., founder of Operation Helmet. We need ongoing donations right now from the American people to keep this effort alive! # # # Operation Helmet is a nonpartisan, 501(c)3 charitable grassroots effort that provides helmet upgrade kits free of charge to U.S. troops in harm’s way. Operation Helmet depends on tax-deductible donations and is a member of AmericaSupportsYou.mil. For $54-$71, added safety and comfort can be provided for a trooper. Donations of any amount are welcome and can be designated for a specific military service, a particular unit or an individual trooper. Over 99% of donations go toward helmet kits. There are no salaries or payroll costs deducted and Operation Helmet’s books are available for inspection. End
