Parkway Electric Hosts Alternative Energy Seminar

Parkway Electric to educate about alternative and sustainable energy in “Power Lunch” seminar series

Oct. 2, 2008 - PRLog -- As the market begins to cry out for sustainable and renewable energy sources, many construction companies are left with several questions; including how this new demand will impact their businesses. To shed light on the topic, Parkway Electric will host a panel of expert guest speakers at an informative “Power Lunch” seminar at their new location at 3755 36th St. SE, Grand Rapids on October 9, 2008. Opening announcements and lunch service will commence promptly at 11:30 a.m. followed by presentations at 11:45 a.m.
According to the U.S. Department of Energy, Alternative energy technologies provide significant environmental benefits. Stephen Hamstra, Vice President of GMB Architects & Engineers and a featured speaker at the seminar agrees. “There is a growing market for alternative energy, whether it’s solar, hydro, wind or even animal by-products. Utilizing these alternative resources could reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, lessen our carbon foot-prints and prove to be more cost-effective during times of an energy crisis,”
said Hamstra.
Attendees will meet at Parkway Electric’s new Grand Rapids location to explore the benefits and possible draw-backs of substituting or implementing forms of alternative energy in correlation with conventional resources. Before opening the floor for open discussion, Parkway Electric’s invited panel of professionals will address frequently asked questions such as:
•   What alternative energy sources are currently available and which of them is
most practical?
•   What other than cost could be potential obstacles to using alternative energy?
•   Is all alternative energy sustainable?
•   What is the typical pay back for using alternative energy sources?
•   How does one research and find the best energy source, be it alternative or conventional, to meet their specific needs?
•   What advice should be given for someone who would like to begin pursuing a more sustainable path in building operations and maintenance using alternative energy?
Gary Zandstra, Sales & Marketing Manager at Parkway Electric noted that he feels Dave Prouty, Stephen Hamstra and other invited featured speakers are uniquely qualified to speak at the Power Lunch seminar.
Dave Prouty has 30 years of experience in design and manufacturing of gas heating, electrical cooling, waste gas energy recovery, industrial and commercial refrigeration and custom air moving devices. As the owner of Heat Transfer International (HTI), a subsidiary of Thermocon Corporation, Dave has acquired and integrated Presque Isle Engineering and C&H Combustion Company’s assets and intellectual properties with his company’s industrial heating, cooling and electrical manufacturing facility in Dutton, MI.

To add to the proficiency level of the speakers addressing the attendees, Stephen Hamstra was named the first engineer in Michigan to achieve LEED Accredited Professional status in 2001. In 2007, the Association of Energy Engineers recognized him as a “Legend in Energy” for lifetime achievement.  In 2008, Steve was appointed to the Board of Advisors of the Ferris State University College of Technology HVACR Program.
