Consumer Alert; Car Dealerships Pull Off Wax-job On Un-suspecting Customers

Sept. 7, 2008 - PRLog -- BOSTON, MA – An un-ethical business practice is being performed by new auto dealerships throughout the United States scamming their customers into purchasing a “Protection Package” containing an “Exterior Teflon Wax/Protectant” charging up-wards of $600.00!

While the product being applied to the new car may be a fine wax or a fine protectant it is likely to be a product that could be bought for $10 at the local auto parts retailer under a different name or a service that could be purchased at the local Auto Detail Shop for $29.95. There is no value in this add-on service and the term “Teflon” is only used as a marketing ploy.

This service option built into their “Dealer Packs” is a very high profit center for the dealership which is designed solely to separate the buyer from their money; a real shame considering gas prices have exceeded $4.00 a gallon.

These dealerships are proclaiming that this wax protectant will last on the exterior surface of the vehicle for up to 5 years. According to David J. The ONLY reason a wax protectant is applied to the exterior surface of an automobile is to protect the paint or clearcoat from forming oxidation. Oxidation is a type of rust that forms on painted surfaces. It is caused by exposure to a combination of UV rays emitting from the sun and oxygen.
