BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Dec. 25, 2023 - PRLog -- Dr. Daniel Choi and Dr. Courtney Toombs of Spine Medicine and Surgery of Long Island were awarded a spot on the North American Spine Society's (https://www.spine.org/) prestigious 20 Under 40 List for 2023.

For consideration on this annual list, applicants are reviewed by the SpineLine Editorial Board. SpineLine (https://www.spineline-digital.org/spineline/library/item/september_october_2023/4134495/) is the North American Spine Society's bimonthly clinical and news publication.  Applicants answer questions about their background, achievements, philosophy of care, and service to their local spine health and greater community. The Editorial Board also looks at published research, community service, and involvement with the North American Spine Society (NASS), among other criteria.

Dr. Daniel Choi: Pioneering Innovative Spine Surgery and Championing Physician Support

Dr. Daniel Choi is the founding spine surgeon at Spine Medicine and Surgery of Long Island. He forged a unique path opening his independent practice, doing so to encourage robust practice opportunities for young surgeons and meet patient demand. He is also a pioneer: Dr. Choi was the first surgeon in Long Island to perform a dual portal endoscopic laminectomy.

As a physician advocate through the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Medical Society of the State of New York, Dr. Choi has lobbied for physician-friendly provisions in the No Surprises Act.

""It is a tremendous honor to be featured on the 20 Under 40 List by the North American Spine Society. I am thankful for the recognition of my advocacy work to protect physician autonomy and patient access to care," reflects Dr. Choi. "I am a fierce believer that independent practice viability is essential to a robust and accessible healthcare system for our patients."

Dr. Courtney Toombs: An Unconventional Path Fosters Holistic Patient Care

Dr. Courtney Toombs (https://www.spinemedli.com/meet-dr-toombs/) took an atypical path to spine medicine by way of creative writing, psychiatry, then clinical research, all of which inform her holistic patient care at Spine Medicine and Surgery of Long Island.

"I am honored to share my non-traditional background and how it informs my surgical practice, encouraging others to value their unique interests as they pursue a career in spine surgery," remarks Dr. Toombs.
