Edwin Archer Randolph's Legacy Lives On 143 Years Later

WATERBURY, Conn. - May 19, 2023 - PRLog -- Waterbury, CT - Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity (LCD), is honoring two deserving individuals at the 19th Annual Edwin Archer Randolph Diversity Award Celebration. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 6pm at the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, CT. The evening's honorees include Vanessa Roberts Avery, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut and Kean Zimmerman, Claims Counsel for Tokio Marine HCC.

Attorney Avery will be presented with the Edwin Archer Randolph Award, which honors an individual whose work has created opportunities for growth and advancement for lawyers of color in the state. She is a New Haven native and is a graduate of the New Haven Public Schools, Yale University and the Georgetown University Law Center. The award is named in memory of Edwin Archer Randolph, a Yale Law School graduate who was the first lawyer of color admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1880. Through his service in various public offices, Mr. Randolph was instrumental in promoting the inclusion and advancement of lawyers and other professionals of color in Connecticut. In tribute to his legacy, this award honors an individual who promotes the inclusion and advancement of lawyers of color and other professionals.

Attorney Zimmerman will be awarded the Carolyn Golden Hebsgaard Diversity Award, which recognizes a Connecticut lawyer of distinction under the age of 40 who has demonstrated a commitment to developing diverse young lawyers in the state. He is the current President of the Connecticut Hispanic Bar Association and was recognized by the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) as one of its Top Lawyers Under 40.
