GOP's far-right stance in Connecticut paves way for Democratic victory

HARTFORD / WATERBURY, Conn. - Oct. 17, 2022 - PRLog -- Despite the echoing rumblings of political strife ahead, the one thing that has already been decided in this midterm election is that Connecticut is set to maintain its Democratic representation, including the governor's seat.

Several factors are likely to contribute to the victory, among them abortion, a minimum wage increase, elimination of the gas tax and the increasing belief among Connecticut voters that the 2020  election wasn't stolen.

As a result, Gov. Ned Lamont Lamont and Senator Richard Blumenthal face little opposition as they head to what is likely a massive victory.

Political observers, including several Republicans, have indicated their astonishment at the double digits lead Gov. Ned Lamont has maintained over his opponent, Mr. Bob Stefanowski, a former business executive.

Regrettably, such surprises are overstated given Mr Lamont's ability to get things done.  He's introduced measures that resulted in the biggest minimum wage increase in decades.  And despite his opponent's heavy concentration on crime, the reality is that crime in Connecticut is down – way down compared to the rest of the country.

The governor's early decision to eliminate the state gas tax has given motorists an early break as the inflation was about to set in.  And his pro-choice stance on abortion has grabbed 63 percent of women's vote.

Even though Bob Stefanowski, the republican challenger, has recognized Biden as the legitimate 2020 winner and has focused his attention on inflation, including food and gas prices, his stance on abortion, however, couldn't come at a worst time: he believes women should subject themselves to the dictate of men when it comes to abortion, even if it's their own bodies.

Singlehandedly, this very issue stand to send Mr Stefanowski packing.

Both Blumenthal and Hayes are fighting against an unprecedented onslaught brought about by election deniers, who believe that the 2020 election was rigged against former president Donald Trump.

Hayes' challenger, former State Senator George Logan, hasn't yet stated whether the recent election was fraudulent, which raises serious question as to where he stands.  He also back a woman's right to choose, with some restrictions.

But Leora Levy, the Republican senate candidate, didn't mince her words when she threw her support to Donald Trump.

Calling the FBI's recent investigation raid at Mar-a+Lago "disgusted," Levy said she was deeply "upset" and "offended" at the operation, which she called "un-American"
"That is what they do in Cuba and China," she told supporters.

The reported fraud scheme in the 2020 election – supported by MAGA-Repubican circles – has reached such a level that it now involves all three branches of the US government, including the supreme court.

The ultra right-wing movement, if continued unabated, could threaten the long-term democratic stability of the United States.
