Students Stand Up to Bullying as Upstanders Through Public Service Announcement Scholarship

MIAMI - Oct. 18, 2016 - PRLog -- National Voices for Education, Equality and Enlightenment (NVEEE) will be granting scholarships, in honor of Mark Haines, to ten student participants who submit the most compelling public service announcements (PSAs) on the effects of bullying, self harm, or suicide. The Mark Haines Media Scholarship is named after NVEEE's first funding donor and media sponsor, Mark Haines, who passed away in 2014, but whose legacy will continue through this scholarship in his honor.

The submission deadline is November 11, 2016 at 11:59 P.M. EST.  Eight first place winners will receive a scholarship of $500. each, while two second place winners will receive $250. Students can submit their individual PSAs in one of the following formats: video (30 to 60 seconds), a series (minimum of four) of school appropriate posters, a collection of social media campaign designs for each major platform (Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/Website Banner), or conceptual photographs that advocate for social justice and motivating positive change - while keeping with the theme.

"Empowering young people to speak out against all forms of bullying including anti-LGBT bullying, while ultimately preventing suicide, is a cause Mark was very passionate about."

On Sunday, November 13, 2016, NVEEE will honor Mark Haines and his memory at its annual Artists Against Bullying Showcase, hosted at Sunshine Cathedral 1480 SW 9th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315. Winners of the award and scholarship will be invited to attend the event where their work will be featured and celebrated not only by NVEEE's supporters, but also by Mark's friends, family and colleagues.
