HENDERSON, Nev. - Aug. 5, 2016 - PRLog -- Christ the Redeemer, with its open arms, stands 125 feet tall atop the Corcovado Mountain, which rises above Rio, and is visible throughout the entire city.  The 1,145 ton statue is one of Rio's most recognizable landmarks in the Parque Nacional da Tijuca region.  Tourists can reach the statue via a narrow-gauge train that takes about 20 minutes to reach the top. Local vans are also available which can be boarded at a number of locations in Rio.

Copacabana Beach and Ipanema Beach have spectacular views, long sandy sun soaked beaches and are the perfect places to hang out and soak in the local culture. The beaches are the place where artists, lefties and old hippies hang out. Arpoador is about halfway between Ipanema and Copacabana and is considered Rio's best surfing spot. The beaches are full of locals, tourists and families enjoying things like tennis, beach volleyball and soccer. The beaches and waters of Ipanema are cleaner than those of Copacabana but do get busy on the weekends.  Ipanema literally means "bad, dangerous waters" and due to the strong undertow and large waves it's important to swim in only the designated areas.

Riding a cable car to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain is a "must do" while in Rio. The cable car is one of Rio's most iconic attractions and takes visitors for a ride up to the peak for amazing panoramic views of the city. The cable car ride makes a halfway point stop of about 700 feet above sea level before traveling to the top.

Rio de Janeiro's rainforest has dwindled however, the remaining forest remains lush and filled with beautiful plants, trees and waterfalls and offers miles of well-marked trails.  The area, called the Tijuca, is a great place for families to explore as well as serious hikers seeking a challenge. The summit is over 1,000m high and offers magnificent views.  A vast array of wildlife makes their home in the dense forest and it's not unusual to see monkeys, iguanas and colorful birds while hiking the trails.

For a taste of the local cuisine, Volta's outdoor patio serves up delicious Brazilian food in an old villa atmosphere. The food is creative and dinner starts off with a number of appetizers and courses that are followed by creamy desserts. Live jazz completes the mood on Tuesday nights.
