Bhanu Choudhrie and family honoured Columbia University Medical Center

OXFORD, U.K. - June 29, 2016 - PRLog -- Great philanthropists aren't just recognized by their heart of gold, but through deep-rooted values which their subsequent generations can also inherit.

The Choudhrie Family Foundation is one such example of a family where each member is always willing to help out the less fortunate. Its humanitarian work was honoured and recognised, this time at the official dedication of the Roy and Diana Vagelos Education Center, the medical and graduate education institute at the Columbia University Medical Center in Manhattan housed in a stupendous building.

Previously, Choudhrie's helped set up the Choudhrie Family Student Lounge, a space for medical students to take out some time from their vigourous schedule and stretch a muscle or two.

Sudhir and Anita Choudhrie marked their attendance at the event along with son Dhairya. The school's leaders passionately welcomed them.

"My good friends Bunny and Anita Choudhrie are major benefactors for the building and great friends of Columbia," said Lee Goldman, Dean of the Faculties of Health Sciences and Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center, reflecting his strong friendship with Sudhir. "I want to thank you for contributing your friendship and how much you mean to all of us here at the medical center."

The center literally acted as a life saviour for Sudhir back in 1999, when the doctors at Columbia University Medical Center successfully carried out his heart transplant.

A decade later, a donation of $2.5 million launched the Sudhir Choudhrie Professorship of Cardiology.

Columbia University President Lee C. Bollinger referred to the Choudhrie's and other notable donors as "Columbian families through and through; you just can't say enough about what these families have done for Columbia."

Bhanu Choudhrie, son of Sudhir and Anita Choudhrie said, "Our entire family is eternally grateful to everyone at Columbia. We are proud to be a part of this exciting new project and to be part of the Columbia University Medical Center family."
