Sprenger Health Care Systems offers A Matter of Balance

WOOSTER, Ohio - June 1, 2016 - PRLog -- Sprenger Health Care Systems is offering A Matter of Balance, a free award-winning, evidence based program aimed at helping older adults reduce their risk of falling.

Falls among older adults can cause harm both physically and mentally. According to the National Council on Aging, falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans. Many people often become afraid of falling, which can lead to decreased confidence and activity levels.

A Matter of Balance has proven to help participants manage falls and increase activity levels. Surveys have shown that 97 percent of participants in A Matter of Balance feel more comfortable with sharing their fear of falling and 99 percent of participants plan to continue exercising after completion of the program.

The program has been awarded the Innovations and Achievement Award from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging and the Healthcare and Aging Award from the American Society on Aging.

A Matter of Balance classes are led by Sprenger's certified clinical experts and are held once a week for eight consecutive weeks.

Smithville Western Commons' Wayne Manor is offering classes each Tuesday, beginning May 17, 2016, at 4138 Swanson Blvd., Wooster, OH, 44691. More classes will be offered at other Sprenger Health Care communities moving forward.

A Matter of Balance is a part of the STEADY U Ohio initiative, which works to provide information and resources to prevent falls.
