Local Bookstore Jan’s Paperbacks Celebrates 35 Years

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Feb. 26, 2016 - PRLog -- Beaverton and Aloha Oregon………..Jan’s Paperbacks is turning 35 and would like to thank the community for their support over the years with a celebration and open house.  To honor their 35 years in business, Jan’s Paperbacks will be hosting an open house on Saturday March 19th from 10am to 6pm.  The celebration will include a children's story time, a visit from New York Times bestselling legal suspense author, Phillip Margolin, cake and in-store specials. All are welcome.

Jan’s Paperbacks opened in 1981 as a tiny paperback exchange.  Over the years, the store has evolved into a full service bookstore offering new books, used books and gifts in-store and eBooks online.  Gone are the days of filing customers book credit on index cards, Jan's has adapted to the changing literary world, adopting a computerized inventory system in the 1990's and a website in the early 2000's. The original owner, Jan C., sold the store to long-time employee, Debbie Burke, in 2000. In recent years, the store has become a gathering place for readers and authors. Jan's Paperbacks prides itself on its strong bond with the community, offering ample shelf space for new and upcoming authors to consign their books in the store, as well as hosting weekly book signings and donating books to local libraries and public schools.

As part of the 35th Anniversary Open House, Jan’s Paperbacks has invited best-selling legal suspense author, Phillip Margolin, to talk about his latest release, VIOLENT CRIMES, as well as answer questions and sign books.  Phillip Margolin has written twenty-one novels, many of them New York Times bestsellers, including his latest novels Woman with a Gun, Worthy Brown’s Daughter, Sleight of Hand, and the Washington trilogy. Each displays a unique, compelling insider’s view of criminal behavior, which comes from his long background as a criminal defense attorney who has handled thirty murder cases.

The celebration will also include a children's story time at 11am with a focus on birthday themed books, cake at 2pm and in-store specials all day.

“I don’t think a community is complete without a bookstore, and I’m proud to be the owner of our community bookstore,” says Jan’s Paperbacks owner Debbie Burke.  “The book industry has changed a lot in the last 35 years, and we have worked hard to stay up to date with what the customers want, because without them we wouldn’t have survived this long.  We truly value our customers and thank them for our success.”

Jan’s Paperbacks is an independently owned bookstore specializing in new books, used books, greeting cards and gifts in-store as well as selling eBooks through their online store www.JansPaperbacks.com.  The store has been a staple in the Aloha community for 35 years.
