In Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Black Pastors Unite to End Evictions and Further Black Displacement Speculator Greed Resulting in Black Pastor’s Arrest Indicative of Final Tearing Apart of San Francisco’s Last Remaining Blacks.

Pastor Yul Dorn has been a pillar of San Francisco’s Black community, serving as a pastor of a predominantly Black church in the Western Addition; a grief counselor for the City of San Francisco’s Department of Public Health dedicated to stopping retaliatory violence and counseling grieving families and as a Chaplain for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department. Like countless other borrowers, Pastor Dorn was forced into Foreclosure when Chase Bank misapplied payments and never fixed their error.

San Jose speculator, Quan He purchased Pastor Dorn’s home and instead of trying to come to a mutually beneficial solution, He forced the eviction process over the Christmas holidays so he could empty the home and flip it for a quick profit.

“If we cannot afford to live in our own hometown and our children cannot afford to live here, this is a form of genocide,” stated Reverend Derrick Lomax, San Francisco native and Pastor of Living Word Church of God in Christ. “If our Black zip codes can be redlined for predatory loans, our zip codes can have a moratorium to stop these foreclosures.”

WHAT:  Press Conference to Protect Pastor Dorn and the City’s last remaining Blacks from any further displacement.

WHO:    Dr. Amos Brown, President of the NAACP; London Breed, President of the San Francisco  Board of Supervisors, San Francisco and Peninsula Black Pastors; and additional African Leaders from the Bay Area.

WHERE: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Fountain, Yerba Buena Center on Mission Street between 3rd and 4th Street in San Francisco.

WHEN:  Martin Luther King Day, 11:15AM, Monday, January 18, 2016

WHY: “The San Francisco Black Community is fast approaching a population of 3% because of our battle against predators like Wall Street Banks and real estate speculators trying to take our homes” stated Archbishop Alonzo King, of the St. John Coltrane Church, which is also fighting displacement.  “Pastor Dorn symbolizes what is good and what is important to protect our Black community.  He has not only shouldered the responsibility of shepherding his congregation, but that of his community as well.  He has provided comfort to the families in crisis and helped lead the community to fight against injustices. He has stood with us and none of us in the religious community can stand back while this family fights for their very existence in this city.  Taking a stand with Pastor Dorn will help protect other Black families.”

BACKGROUND:

During the Christmas Holidays, Pastor Dorn and his family received an eviction notice from a real estate speculator named Quan He intent on flipping the home of 20 years for a 50% profit once he was removed.  The unjust sale to Quan He came after Chase Bank misapplied Pastor Dorn’s payment and bungled his case.   Supporters have called for an investigation of possible fraud.

Throughout the holidays, Pastor Dorn and a growing community of supporters have tried to convince Quan He to delay the eviction so that he can be made whole and Mayor Lee’s office who has been sitting on Pastor Dorn’s case for over a year can get Chase Bank an US Bank to the table to fix their mistake.

On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, nearly 50 protestors were able to turn back the Sheriff from enforcing an eviction while also getting an initial agreement around terms to negotiate between Pastor Dorn, ACCE and Quan He that included more time for Pastor Dorn and the community to buy back the home and a commitment to make Quan He whole.  Based on this verbal agreement, an initial proposal was sent to Quan He’s attorney with the request that the eviction be postponed until a legal binding agreement could be negotiated over the next week.

On Thursday, January 14, 2016, repeated calls to Quan He and his attorney to honor the verbal agreement were ignored as Sheriffs deputies arrested Pastor Dorn and three supporters and Pastor Dorn's wife, daughter and 8-month-old baby were put in the street.

Repeated calls Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to move forward with negotiations to find a solution to benefit all parties and put Yul Dorn’s family back in their home by Martin Luther King Jr. Day continue to be ignored by Quan He.
