Mendelssohn’s “Concert Piece No.2” transcribed for Flute or Oboe with Clarinet or Bassoon

In 1833, Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) wrote two Concert Pieces for Clarinet, Basset Horn, and Piano, Op.113 and Op.114, as show-pieces for the famous clarinetist Heinrich Bärmann to play with his up-and-coming son Karl on the basset horn.  These works are highly suitable for transcription, even aside from the rarity of the basset horn today.  John W. Pratt, a frequent contributor of arrangements to Noteworthy Sheet Music’s catalog, recently created expert alternative wind parts for Mendelssohn’s Concert Piece No.2, Op.114, making this flashy, fun-to-play work available to a broader range of instrumentalists.  NSM provides, in addition to a re-notated version of the original clarinet primo part, transcriptions of it for flute and oboe.  Transcriptions of the basset horn part are provided for bassoon, clarinet, and English horn.
