By: Aunt Laurie's Aunt Laurie’s is a Bluffton-based national e-retailer committed to helping people with special needs by offering a unique collection of products and gifts made, assembled and/or packaged by individuals with disabilities. Aunt Laurie’s gift baskets and gift sets, which come in a number of different themes for all occasions, are hand-assembled by individuals with disabilities at the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Beaufort – giving workers the opportunity to learn job skills, and gain a sense of purpose, through Aunt Laurie’s. “Each year, we select SCORE clients that have been extremely successful utilizing advice and counsel provided by SCORE mentors, and celebrate their success with this honor,” says Gene Sherman, Chairman of the SCORE Lowcountry Chapter. “We are happy to be recognizing Laurie Brown and Aunt Laurie’s as one of this year’s two Clients of the Year, and congratulate her on her company’s successful growth.” In addition to being packaged and assembled by local individuals with disabilities at the SC Vocational Rehabilitation Center, each Aunt Laurie’s gift basket or gift set contains an assortment of top quality gift products that have been hand-crafted, designed and/or manufactured mostly by small businesses all around the country, many who employ individuals with disabilities. Since launching her own business in March after a long career in the corporate world, Laurie has created a number of strategic relationships with organizations nationwide employing those with disabilities, including Lambs Farm, Programs for Exceptional People, Extraordinary Ventures, Berry Towne Crafts and Waggies by Maggie and Friends – all of which produce some of the gifts used in Aunt Laurie’s unique gift sets. The SC Lowcountry SCORE chapter offers free, confidential business mentoring to small business clients in Beaufort, Colleton, Jasper and Hampton counties, with offices located in Bluffton, Hilton Head, and Beaufort. SCORE is a non-profit, volunteer association sponsored by the Small Business Administration. There are more than 13,000 SCORE volunteers nationwide; the SC Lowcountry SCORE chapter, which has 40 counselors locally, has been a part of the community for 26 years.
