Follow on Google News | Writer takes an incredible 30 years to write comedy bookBy: Charlie Purple charlie@betteremail.me www.charliepurple.com Man spends thirty years of his life writing a comedy. Charlie Purple began writing a comedy 'Basaclanca' back in 1985. Thirty years later it is deemed too controversial to publish. “I wanted to compare the raw, often brutal type of comedy we experienced in the mid 80's with the fluffy comedy of today. My mantra was that by offending everybody, I could never be accused of discrimination! Herne Bay, Kent– 10/10/2015 – What started as a series of sketches Channel 4 television would have liked to turn into a TV show, turned into an 80000 word comedy epic that received generous praise from publishers but none felt brave enough to publish. “I'll chuck it on the back burner until the world becomes slightly less P.C.” Charlie mused, “Patience is my middle name!” he beamed. Realising that daylight hours were nearing the twilight on his life, a fit of desperation set in, so whilst rewriting his 'monument to anti taste' in Calvados France, he had a brainwave. “Let's write something else instead!” Two weeks later ,'The Secret Code of the Dead' had those two words he had singularly failed to write at the end of his other story in thirty years. 'THE END' “I was so shocked that I sent it to just one publisher,(Kellan Publishing) and it's being published on the 10th of October. I've never understood why the dead, assuming that there is an afterlife, have not used modern technology to find a better way to communicate with the living. So, I have envisaged one.” The story follows the lives of four childhood friends as they discover a completely hidden realm where your deepest wish can be granted. One of the friends claims to be a psychic and declares that the dead have found a way to communicate with the living. The others are skeptical until one of them is confronted with absolute proof during assignment in war torn Iraq. The four friends have no choice but to follow the hazardous journey to it's conclusion when powerful people learn of their secret and want to possess it at any cost. “I cannot write without comedy being a dominant force contained within but horror and comedy seldom work so this is a far more mature approach to writing and completely out of my comfort zone. Most of the comedy can be shown to your grandmother but one character definitely pushes this story into the adult section.” If you visit www.charliepurple.com there's a book trailer and the first chapter. Charlie will be remembered for writing a comedy 80000 words long and taking over thirty years to complete it. That's 7.3 words a day and there will be more as Charlie embarks on yet another rewrite. This time armed with the mandate of being so incredibly nice to the readership that it may appear in the children section of the library. Unlikely, but one day bananas might peel themselves too.
