HINGHAM, Mass. - Sept. 25, 2015 - PRLog -- South Street Gallery (www.southstreetgallery.com), a leading gallery providing fine art and framing, and which provides support for area artists, will welcome renowned Wyoming painter Geoff Parker as the featured artist at the Gallery from October 1 to October 23, 2015.

Parker will spend about a month on the east coast and will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, October 3, from 5 to 8pm. This exhibit will feature many new paintings, both western landscapes as well as New England and local landscapes; a few still-life paintings will be on display, too. The public is encouraged to stop by during the opening reception to meet this acclaimed artist from Wyoming and see his newest works.

Geoff Parker uses alla prima, an Italian term describing the artistic moment of capturing what the eye sees on the spot and at the moment.

Born in Cody, Wyoming in 1951, he developed a deep appreciation for his environment that would become his inspiration.  In his early teens he and his family moved to Spokane, Washington where he graduated from high school.  Following his graduation he followed a sort of vagabond lifestyle picking up odd jobs, moving more and more southwest until he landed in San Francisco, California.  Following his dream and passion, Parker enrolled into the San Francisco Academy of Art and began to refine his talent.  After his graduation came the hardships involved in any beginning art career.  He was in fact a starving artist.  After a series of moves and various employments (commercial fisherman in Alaska, cowhand from Montana to Arizona, deep sea diver, and sous Chef among others) he and his wife found themselves back in Cody, Wyoming where they started a family and raised three girls and nurtured a growing art career.

With an expanding patronage in both national and international circles, he has been given the opportunity to paint the globe. He has organized exhibitions showcasing his paintings of the Grand Canyon, the history of Lewis and Clark, the picturesque scenes of Morocco, Spain all the way to the tropics of Costa Rica and Central America.
