LOS ANGELES - Sept. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- For 30 years, Susan Stearns, a sales associate in the Calabasas office of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties, has volunteered with New Horizons, a nonprofit dedicated to working with adults with intellectual disabilities.

Thanks to her ongoing efforts, Stearns has been named one of 10 finalists for REALTOR® Magazine’s 2015 Good Neighbor Awards. This award from the National Association of Realtors® (NAR) honors REALTORs® who:

• Volunteer in their communities

• Improve the quality of life for their neighbors

• Go above and beyond in their commitment to making their neighborhoods better places to live

“By serving as board chair and fundraising chair, Susan founded several events that have raised more than $2.5 million for her nonprofit of choice,” said David M. Cabot, President & CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California Properties. “This is a remarkable achievement, and we are extremely proud of Susan for making such a positive impact in the community she serves so faithfully.”

If a panel of judges names her one of five winners by Sept. 25, Stearns will secure a $10,000 grant for New Horizons. In addition, she will be sent to the 2015 REALTORS® Conference & Expo in San Diego in November to accept the award at a presentation in front of thousands of her peers. If she earns an honorable mention as one of the next top five finalists, New Horizons will receive a $2,500 grant. And if she is voted Web Choice winner by Sept. 25 at www.realtor.com/goodneighbor, New Horizons will receive an additional $1,000. Voting for Web Choice winner is open to everyone.

All winners also will receive national media exposure for their community charity, including a feature in the November/December issue of REALTOR® Magazine. Winners will be announced Sept. 30.

This year marks the 16th year the Good Neighbor Awards program has recognized REALTOR® volunteers. Those being honored donated their time, money and passion to enrich the lives of the people in their communities.

“The Good Neighbor Award recipients remind us that REALTORS® build communities in many, many ways,” said NAR President Chris Polychron. “Seeing the level of passion and dedication to helping those in need from this year's top 10 finalists makes me proud to be a REALTOR®.”
