Apex Review Of Legend Of The Walking Dead

A cultural experience that follows a mother and son finding secrets of the afterlife

Aug. 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Legend Of The Walking Dead tells the story of two people living out the mythological beliefs of the Igbo culture in Nigeria. Osondu and his mother, Gloria, both find themselves in another dimension after falling through a spiritual and sacredly regarded lake. While they struggle to determine if they are still alive, the walking dead, or simply spirits, they encounter other people who have gone through the same experience. As they try to figure out their new lives away from home, they come to understand the mythologies they grew up learning in their culture. For readers who are not familiar with Igbo culture, the book is very clear and open to education. Nobody will be lost in this very thrilling and interesting tale that encounters death and the life beyond.

Gloria and Osondu go to a world that is the opposite of Earth. In this spirit world, they find guidance from friends who wish to help them. Osondu is able to return home, only to discover that is no longer where he belongs. He then transcends into a spiritual journey with responsibilities to the whole universe. He has special powers that make him realize that life beyond death should not be feared. Gloria soon follows in his footsteps, and the reader watches her journey to spirituality as a difficult task is placed in front of her.

This book is so satisfying because it helps readers understand death according to this culture. We come to appreciate the characters and want them to be happy. While at first they feel they can only be happy if they are able to return home, we learn through a few interesting encounters that the world of the living is no place for spirits to linger. They try to interact with a few different members of their families but learn that they only bring heartache and distrust. While they remain curious travelers, the reader is able to answer religious questions such as why ghosts would not return to Earth after death. People of any background can appreciate the knowledge of this book.

Lo-Bamijoko entices audience to many different worlds with beautiful creativity and adventure. There are lands of talking plants and rainbow people. The reader also sees how Christianity has an influence on Igbo culture, which leads to questions of imperialism and how religion and culture come to coexist. This book is worth the read and will inspire as many questions as it answers.
