SAN MATEO, Calif. - Aug. 14, 2015 - PRLog -- ATTENTION: POLITICAL EDITOR re PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS AND THE IOWA STATE FAIR...AND A SONG AND A POEM CALLED "RUN FOR OFFICE"

Here is something you can have some fun with as the Presidential contenders start descending on the Iowa State Fair this weekend...it's a poem and a song called "Run For Office."

"Run For Office" is a satire on power, politics, sex, lies, money and greed...all the stuff that politics is made of. The people will love this song and poem, politicians will hate it.

The poem version of "Run For Office" was originally written by Robert Barrows of San Mateo, California in the early 1980s after he heard a season of very nasty political ads. He entered the poem version of "Run for Office" in the San Mateo County Fair (in San Mateo, California) in 1995 and it won 3rd Prize in their poetry contest.

THE POEM VERSION OF RUN FOR OFFICE GOES LIKE THIS...

"RUN FOR OFFICE"

Copyright 1995, Robert Barrows

"Out of work? Need a job? Run for office!

Big Debts, Lot's of sex? Run For Office!

Need Prestige? Run For Office!

Get elected! Get respected!

You even get yourself protected!

Give unto Caesar that which is his!

Get me Redford! Get me Liz!

I'm going to make it really big...

I'm going to run for office!

All the money you need...

The pleasures of power and greed...

Got to start planting the seed...

I'm going to run for office!

Get elected! Get respected!

Got to get myself selected!

My future in bliss! I'll promise you that...

I'll promise you this!

...With this big warm smile, hey, I can't miss!

There's nothing to lose, and I could actually win!

A couple of lies, hey, that's not like a sin?

Which race is open? I'm ready to go!

I'll toss in my hat

and here comes the dough!

Where do I stand? It doesn't matter...

I'm shaking everyone's hand!

Oh what a feeling, I'm in command!

Hey, nice to meet you!

I'm running for office!

Your goals are my goals!

Vote for me! I'm your man!

What are my plans?

I'll show you when I get in office!"

Then, in 1998, Barrows teamed up with a musician named Gary Warren and they co-wrote a song version of "Run For Office." The song version of "Run For Office" is even more biting than the poem.

People can hear a free clip of the song version of "Run For Office" at www.barrows.com/music.html and there is also a link on that page where they can download the song for 99 cents on iTunes. ("I doubt that any of the candidates will be using it as their campaign theme song" says Barrows.)

Barrows also ran for office. He ran for Congress in the Democratic Primaries in the 12th Congressional District in California in 2006 and 2008. He lost both times. "Run For Office" got some interesting mentions in some of the press coverage about his campaigns.

Since a lot of the Presidential contenders will also be talking about their plans for the economy during their "mandatory" visit to the Iowa State Fair, and since several of them may or may not mention the dreaded words "Income Inequality" in their speeches, you might also enjoy another song that Barrows and Warren co-wrote from a poem by Barrows...a song about money called "Big Bucks." "Big Bucks is a song that the rest of us on the wrong side of the income inequality numbers can vent to" says Barrows. ("You can also vent to "Big Bucks"  whenever you hear a candidate talking about Income Inequality after they have just attended a $100,000 a plate fundraising dinner.")

You can hear a free clip of "Big Bucks" at www.barrows.com/music.html and there is also a link on that page where people can download "Big Bucks" for 99 cents on iTunes.

"And if you have to sit through one of the candidate's speeches when you would rather be doing anything else at the fair, don't despair, you can always download "Run For Office" and blast it on your cell phone after they finish speaking."
