GobySavvy: Helping anyone create user-friendly technology

Our Design Review tool is like a spell-checker, but for an interface. It helps novices or expert designers optimize websites and apps.

GobySavvy ("Go be savvy") is a startup with a team of 11 expert user experience (UX) designers. We apply psychology and design principles to design simple, user-friendly technology. We’ve worked with global startups, as well as Fortune 500 companies, to clean up the products they’ve designed. Our goal is to help anyone, from the individual blogger to the large corporation, to create engaging digital experiences that are worth talking about.

With our UX review app, everyone will have access to expert knowledge that would otherwise be difficult to find. The GobySavvy app allows you to run through a website or web app, click on interface elements, and find relevant user experience principles and solutions to improve the interface. And it's not just for expert UX designers either.

There will be two versions of the GobySavvy UX review app:

Normal app:
The normal version can be used by anyone: bloggers, designers, stakeholders, individual site owners, etc. The GobySavvy app will walk you through your website or web app and point out obvious issues. You can click elements on your web page, and the app will attempt to detect UX principles and examples that would improve the element you clicked.

Expert UX Designer app:
The expert version is specifically designed for UX designers. The tool is meant to speed up the UX review process. UX designers can quickly search for the UX principles they need and select relevant example screenshots to help the developers that read UX reports. User stories can be easily added to give context to the review. Finally, the report can be organized within the GobySavvy app before exported to PowerPoint, Word, or PDF.

GobySavvy is a play on words, pronounced “Go be savvy.” A goby is a type of fish, some which have symbiotic (helpful) relationships with shrimp. The goby will clean parasites and other unwelcome foreign objects off of the shrimp and from its burrow in the ocean floor. Goby also often acts as the shrimps “eyes” to guide it from danger. GobySavvy, along a similar line, helps entrepreneurs and companies clean up unwelcome user experience issues, as well as help create a savvy product vision through user testing, expert reviews, and a focus on “lean” business methods.

Our main service is to conduct “user experience reviews”, or “UX reviews”, of early designs, prototypes, or finished products. We analyze an interface, applying known scientific research, psychology and design principles, and even current trends and best practices to improve the experience. These UX reviews are conducted on websites, web apps, mobile & tablet apps, and desktop software, so basically any digital product (We’ve even recently reviewed a wine dispenser and its accompanying tablet app!). We’ve found that doing expert reviews early is an efficient way to detect and improve interface issues before time and budget is wasted on development and user testing.
