Colonial Courtyard at Bedford residents recognize National Hot Dog Day

BEDFORD, Pa. - July 22, 2015 - PRLog -- The Colonial Courtyard at Bedford senior living community will get into the spirit of a summer tradition by holding a hot dog celebration on Friday, July 24.

      The event will be held a day after National Hot Dog Day, which is designated by the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council.

    “We will hold our hot dog celebration party just a bit after National Hot Dog Day, but we’ll still be in the spirit of the celebration,” said Nanette Bankes, Activities Coordinator at Colonial Courtyard at Bedford. “We’re going to have a hot dog bar with condiments so that the residents can make their own hot dogs. We thought this was a good time to celebrate National Hot Dog Day.”

     The hot dog event will begin at 2 p.m. with a meal, and continue at 3 p.m. with Mind Joggers, an educational activity that will focus on the subject of hot dogs. Colonial Courtyard at Bedford is located at 220 Donahue Manor Road in Bedford.

    “We’re going to talk about hot dogs,” Bankes said. “We’re going to talk about the Armour Hot Dog theme song from 1967. We’re going to talk about how the hot dog evolved in our culture and made its way into our dining rooms and onto our grills. We’ll have a trivia contest. We will sing songs that mention hot dogs in it like Elvis’ ‘Hot Dog’ song.”

    Bankes joked about one activity that won’t occur during the event. “We will not be holding a hot dog eating contest,” she said, referring to the Fourth of July Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest held annually at Coney Island in New York and televised on ESPN.

    National Hot Dog Day will take place on Thursday, July 23. The day is designated by the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council in the United States. As the name suggests, the festival revolves around eating hot dogs, but usually there are many other activities.
