Follow on Google News | South Australian Energy Startup Aims to Cut Power Bills and Save the PlanetBy: Squirrel Energy Born out of this year's Startup Weekend Adelaide, Squirrel Energy's product – the Squirrel – intelligently stores and manages customers' power, while giving them flexibility. Typical solar panel setups generate energy during the day, while the sun is up, and any excess energy is sold back to the grid at a low price. However, the Squirrel will allow households to store the excess solar energy for their own use later on, after the sun has set. “When the Squirrel runs out of its surplus solar energy stores, it will use power drawn and stored from the grid during off-peak times,” explained co-founder Adam. “The Squirrel will also act as a battery back up in the event of a power outage, such as during a storm.” “These features set it apart from most other solar household battery products that are on the market or soon to be released, such as the Tesla Powerwall.” The Squirrel is quiet, aesthetically- The Squirrel is expected to save consumers over $1300 per year. “The Squirrel is an exciting new product which will empower Australian consumers,” said spokesperson and co-founder Kat. “It is smarter, better, greener.” “The Squirrel works so that consumers are always either using energy for free, or at the cheapest rate possible.” The market for home solar energy storage is bursting with potential. In May this year, investment bank Morgan Stanley said that they expect it to be worth AU $24 billion, in Australia alone. “Consumers these days want to help the environment and have a strong social conscience,” “You would be nuts not to install a Squirrel.” Twitter: @SquirrelEnergy End
