Follow on Google News | Boulder Concert Band Selects Peter Lillpopp as Conductor and Music DirectorBy: Boulder Concert Band Peter Lillpopp is currently a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Colorado Boulder pursuing his doctorate in Wind Conducting. He received his master’s degree in Instrumental Conducting from the Hartt School in 2014. He has studied conducting with Don McKinney, Glen Adsit and Edward Cumming. Prior to his graduate work in conducting, Peter taught secondary instrumental music for seven years. He received his undergraduate degree in Music Performance from the University of Southern California where he studied tuba with Tommy Johnson. Lillpopp, guest-conducted the Boulder Concert Band during its April 2014 concert. Although he has led many summer rehearsals and co-conducted the 2015 Memorial Day concert, his official duties will begin with the July 13 concert at Salberg Park. "I am very excited to conduct the Boulder Concert Band,” commented Lillpopp. “Boulder is such an amazing and beautiful place to live and I feel honored to have the opportunity to be a part of that community. Just as Boulder is not your typical city, the Boulder Concert Band is not your typical community band. I have been really impressed with the dedication and musicianship of the members and am really looking forward to our future concerts." About The Boulder Concert Band The first records of a performing band in the city of Boulder date back to 1870. The Boulder Concert Band as we know it today was reorganized in 1976 by the late Hugh McMillen, former Director of Bands at the University of Colorado. The current organization has over 70 volunteer musicians from the business, professional, and educational communities in Boulder County and the Denver metro area. The Boulder Concert Band provides the community with outstanding performances of traditional and modern concert literature and enriches the cultural experience of the audience and the musicians.
