Follow on Google News | Nationals Saw Another Successful Show in 2015 EditionSpecial Displays Powered the Increased Gate on Friday of GM Weekend
By: Carlisle Events Despite unfavorable weather on Saturday, there was still an impressive turnout of guests and showfield participants. Friday saw an increase of gate traffic compared to 2014 as sunny skies and warm temperatures graced the fairgrounds. Of course the sun and fun of Friday gave way to the aforementioned doom and gloom for Saturday. Some of day two had to be amended due to weather, including the cancelation of autocross via UMI Performance and a live musical performance by the My80s band. They had been booked as a nice compliment to the ‘80s theme of the weekend. Nevertheless, the day did see judging get completed for those who did show, multiple runs of Nitro Fest with Bruce Larson, burnouts and the beauty competition. The Solid Lifter Showroom within Building G had foot traffic all weekend too, as many traveled from near and far to see the first Camaro ever made, #N100001. This was the first of 49 pilot cars built by Chevrolet and helped to get everything ready for the mass production of the First Generation Camaro. The precious car has been through a lot, as it was originally used as a display vehicle by Chevrolet and then became a showroom attraction in Oklahoma, passing through several owners and even became a drag car at one point. Eventually, the historical importance of the car was recognized and it was restored to its original condition. Another popular draw was the IROC-Z cars of the ‘80s. Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015, Building Y was dedicated to recognizing this milestone and had ten vehicles on display ranging from 1985-1990 editions. Going back further in time, the 1950s and 1960s were also shown some love within the Fabulous Fins display inside Building T. Cars ranged from a 1950 Chevrolet Deluxe Convertible to a ’58 Pontiac Bonneville and even a 1960 Chevrolet Impala. All were equipped with the classic chromed out fins and exaggerated body lines, and drew crowds of all ages to admire the beauty. As highlights go, Sunday showcased it all. The awards parade and sunny skies drew guests back to Carlisle to showcase their cars, take home their honors and just generally enjoy the final day of the show. In addition to the awards parade, guests took advantage of the autocross track with runs and also enjoyed a drifting showcase from 2013 Formula Drift Champion, Michael Essa. Essa showcased his SLP 5th Gen Camaro on the course less than 24 hours after competing in the Formula Drift event in New Jersey. He also signed autographs and posed for photos with the GM faithful. With the event a wrap, guests can look forward to the 2016 Carlisle GM Nationals. Next year the event runs June 24-26 and will once again showcase all things GM. Special themes and displays will include the 50th Anniversary of the Toronado, a special Hurst/Olds showcase and much more. The Carlisle GM Nationals will be back, bigger, better and drier than ever!
