Follow on Google News | Lebanon, KY Hosts Mayberry Pie Festival August 13-16, 2015‘Otis,’ ‘Barney Fife’ and Don Knotts’ daughter stop by for a spell
By: Lebanon Tourist & Convention Commission Weekend highlights At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Karen Knotts will perform her original show, “Tied Up in Knotts,” a hilarious and moving one-woman production about life growing up with her famous father, Don Knotts, and one which shows off her own comedic genius. A VIP Meet & Greet with Karen Knotts is scheduled for 9 p.m. that evening (An encore performance of “Tied Up in Knotts” will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday.) Catch “Barney Fife Fully Loaded” at 7 p.m. on Saturday to see the antics of Barney Fife (Michael J) and the original stand-up routines of Joey I.L.O. who plays Otis in a laugh-out-loud show. The acting duo will arrive in Lebanon in a restored “Barney” police car and be forewarned: You just may get a ticket from a wandering Barney as he “patrols” the town. (“Barney Fife Fully Loaded” repeats at 2 p.m. on Sunday.) At 9:30 p.m., join the Pub Crawl With Otis to visit four Main Street pubs and sample their Otis Special. Tickets for this event include VIP seating at “Barney Fife Fully Loaded” and four drink tickets. Watch out! Barney may show up to harass you and haul Otis off to jail. Before Saturday evening’s fun begins, enjoy dinner at a downtown restaurant, each serving up hometown cooking and homemade pies and ice cream from an old-fashioned soda fountain. Free concerts will take place on both Friday and Saturday. Friday will feature music performed by the Bourbon Barrel Boys, 4-7 p.m. in Court House Square. On Saturday, the Honeysuckle String Band takes to the stage at 5 p.m. in Farmers Square. More Mayberry Fishing fans will have an early wake-up call on Saturday morning for Andy’s Fishing Tournament, open to ages 13 and up (6 a.m.-12 p.m.) and Opie’s Fishing Tournament, students ages 3 to 13 (12:30-2:30 p.m.), with prizes for each in several categories. Join the crowd at Angelic Hall for Saturday’s 11:30 a.m. Mayberry Trivia Contest (spelling bee style), with first and second prizes of a blue ribbon and a Mayberry Plate Lunch Special for two at the winner’s choice of participating restaurants. At 2 p.m. the Pie Eating Contest will get underway on the lawn in front of Centre Square. On the line? A $50 cash first prize. Also on Saturday, Mayberry fans can visit the Marion County Heritage Center for “How To” fun: learn how to research your genealogy, take a great photo, make a craft with duct tape and more. Mayberry memorabilia, children’s games including Lego building, Andy Griffith trivia and other activities will also take place. Throughout the festival, enjoy al fresco dining, pop into locally-owned shops and play checkers at tables on the sidewalks and catch a barbershop quartet singing outside the soda fountain at Adam’s Pharmacy.
