Australian Film Producer Gets A Hit In The Us

June 4, 2015 - PRLog -- Brand new Australian short film, The Aquarium has been selected to have its world premiere at the 21st Palm Springs International ShortFest, in June of this year.

The film was Executive Produced by Leonie Mansfield, whose credits include Co-producer of Hollywood blockbuster Kick Ass 2 and she also worked on X-Men: First Class and the original Kick Ass.

“We are thrilled to be screening at this academy accredited short film festival. It’s been a pleasure working with emerging writer/director Jacobie Gray and I’m delighted that she will have the chance to experience a large scale film festival with The Aquarium’, said Leonie Mansfield, Executive Producer.

The Aquarium is about a young girl who finds beauty in underwater worlds to escape her volatile life; eventually making the ultimate physical sacrifice so she can go on a school excursion to the aquarium. A suspenseful drama shot in Sydney’s west over the summer, The Aquarium boasts some standout performances particularly from 11 year old Sophie Rollason.

“The film was written and directed by Jacobie Gray and reveals the deeper, more sinister struggles of Australian domestic life and how a young girl decides to overcome them to achieve her dream. It’s a remarkable achievement when you consider it’s only Jacobie’s second short film”, concluded Mansfield.

The creative team comprised of Mansfield, formerly of Matthew Vaughn’s production company MARV Films in London (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Kick Ass) joined by Producer Michelle Nagy (Tropfest finalist 2014 with ‘Red Nuts’). Gray’s debut short, ’Cavity’ was also selected as a Tropfest finalist last year.

The Aquarium will screen on Saturday 20^th June, 2015 at 5:30 pm at Camelot Theatres, as part of the On Top Down Under program. Gray will attend in person to pitch her slate including a third short film and her debut feature.

Palm Springs International ShortFest will take place from 16-22 June, 2015 in Palm Springs, USA.
