JONESBORO, Ga. - May 26, 2015 - PRLog -- Freddie Gray. Walter Scott. Nicholas Thomas. Anthony Hill. Michael Brown. Trayvon Martin.

Names forever etched in our memory as lives lost to senseless acts of violence and vigilantism.  We always see their faces splashed across newspapers and televisions, but we often forget the impact and the cause of their deaths have on their families, the community, and their moms.

Whether innocent of guilty, the impact is still the same. Mothers in the African American community are left asking the question, “Do black lives matter? Do our sons matter?” Two Clayton County mothers with a vision to change their community, inspired by recent events asked themselves these questions when they began planning Gathering of the Mothers: Mothers Mourning Our Sons - Those Dead, Those Alive and Those Yet to be Born.Mothers across metro Atlanta will come together and connect to mourn the lives of their sons.

Hosted at the Clayton County Justice Center in Jonesboro, GA on Saturday, May 30 from 9:00-10:00 AM with the support of Clayton County Captain Steve Gavel and Sheriff Victor Hill – well known as a crime fighter and has dedicated the majority of his life to law enforcement and community service.

The program is simple in agenda: Prayer, Purpose, Poetry, Plea, and Impassioned Songs all in one hour.

“Parents are their children’s first teacher. Spiritual development and discipline are prerequisites to establishing moral behavior. Parents need help with managing their families,” says co-organizer of the Gathering of the Mothers event, Marcia Atkins, local social entrepreneur and inventor. “. I would like individuals and families to donate 30 minutes a week, just two hours a month to help a family resolve issues and find resources to guide them.”
