By: Harrodsburg/Mercer County Tourist Commission Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill Summer at Shaker Village means daily adventures, night hikes, Fresh Air Family’s Gross Out Camp, themed workshops, Dixie Belle riverboat excursions, Paddle + Yoga weekends and more. The Great American Brass Band Festival performs a free concert on the lawn 4:30-6 p.m. on Fri., June 5. This concert features the Household Troops Band of the Salvation Army against the backdrop of America’s largest restored Shaker settlement. The Antique Show and Sale gets underway on June 20-21 with more than 50 of the nation’s top dealers. Browse for period Shaker artifacts, museum-quality American furniture, vintage decorative arts and furniture, silver, jewelry, quilts, garden sculpture, fine and folk art, historical artifacts and more. Show admission ($10/ages 13-plus; $5/ages 6-12) includes entry to the Village and access to The Historic Centre, The Farm and The Preserve, with a full day of self-guided and staff-led tours, talks, demonstrations, activities, farm experiences and more. On August 1-2, one of the Kentucky’s premier craft events takes place, with both regional and up-and-coming artisans exhibiting their works, including exceptional pottery, jewelry, glassware, woven rugs, needle craft, basketry, leather goods, floral design and Shaker reproductions. Craft Show admission ($10/ages 13-plus; $5/ages 6-12) also includes entry to the Village. Back for its second year is Well Crafted – Brews + Bands on August 8, an event that brings together delicious flavors, soulful music and tons of fun while educating, celebrating and inspiring community collaboration through the joy of great music and craft beer to raise funds for Shaker Village’s sustainable environmental initiatives and programs. The $25 per person fee includes complimentary pint glass, as well as admission to the Village. www.ShakerVillageKy.org Old Fort Harrod State Park The James Harrod Amphitheatre at Old Fort Harrod State Park presents two shows beneath the stars: the musical, “State Fair,” 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday, June 11-13 and 18-20; and “James Harrod: The Battle For Kentucky,” 8:30 p.m. on July 9-11, 16-18, 23-25 and July 30-Aug. 1. Both shows are presented by Harrodsburg’ The 7th Annual Old Fort Harrod Settlement & Raid will be held on June 20-21. Step into the 1770s and join the settlers, Natives and sutlers (civilian merchants) for re-enactments and pioneer demonstrations. You’ll see lots of blackpowder rifles in action and enjoy a variety of picnic foodstuffs.
