Santa Cruz Artist and Mobile Gallery Owner Takes show on the Road

Nora Dougherty, owner of Work. Shop. - A Mobile Gallery- brings art, film, fire and a collaboration of strangers a cross-country this summer on the "Art of Life Tour"

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - May 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Santa Cruz, CA May 1, 2015 --  It was just 3 years ago that the 1958 Kenskill trailer that is now Work. Shop. -  A Mobile Gallery- sat in a state of neglect along the side of the Pacific Coast Highway.  No one would have guessed that this old trailer would become a venue for art openings, poetry readings, campfires, guerilla craft circles, outdoor film screenings, candle lit concerts, and impromptu dance parties.  From its inception, Work. Shop. has been dedicated to craft, resourcefulness and community.  It offers an environment that is intimate, thoughtful and surprising.  A place for art to happen that defies pretension. Work. Shop. strives "to free you from the four walls of today!"

This summer, Dougherty will be driving her gallery a cross-country.  Her mission- to bring art into everyday life and life into everyday art.   On the "Art of Life Tour" funded through Kickstarter, Dougherty will be making and showing her own work- she is a jeweler- as well as art works from her community on the coast just north of Santa Cruz.  In addition, she will be facilitating a cross-country collaboration of strangers inspired by a project she was a part of several years ago called "Pass it on."  There will be a workspace set up in the trailer fully stocked with art supplies for anyone to sit down and participate in the art collaboration.  There will be squares of paper for people to make their mark.  There will be no limits in terms of material, technique, or content.  Each participant will sign the back, and can check in over the coarse of the summer via instagram to see how "their" piece develops.  At the end of the tour, Dougherty will curate a show with the completed pieces.  All proceeds from this show will be "passed on" to future art Kickstarter projects.

Work. Shop. will also be providing art parties to hosts along the way.  Farms, wineries, schools, gas stations, and co ops- any host that has ample level parking, is dog friendly for her co- pilot Handsome the puppy, and can gather a crowd- the trailer will come- provided the limits of time and space allow.   Parties will include campfire screenings of short films made in her community, and teachings from a divine being called the Great Oracle to help people through their creative blocks.

Dougherty will be documenting this journey with writing, photographs and drawings- to be bound together in an "Art of Life Travelogue," available early winter 2016 to backers of this project.
