Dental Playbox Leeds Launch Delayed By Staffing Hold-Up

STOCKPORT, U.K. - May 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Children’s charity chiefs have delayed the Leeds launch of the acclaimed Dental Playbox project – a new and effective pro-active child health programme - because of the poor response to on-line adverts for staff on major websites , it was revealed yesterday.

Val Jackson, chief executive of the Cheshire-based children’s charity Action for Sick Children, which created the Playbox programme, had hoped to have been arranging Dental Playbox visits to schools and nurseries across the city by now, but the failure to find facilitators was preventing progress.

“Our unique child dental care programme which uses fun, laughter, games and puppets to teach youngsters the basics of caring for the health of their teeth is very effective,” explained Miss Jackson, speaking from her High Lane, Stockport HQ.

“However, our Dental Playbox initiative needs committed staff to deliver that training and unfortunately, despite advertising on some big and popular websites, we have received only a handful of  applications from members of the public, none of which are suitable.

“Many children across Leeds can and will benefit from the Dental Playbox project but we can’t bring the benefits of this initiative to them without the trained individuals required to deliver the programme.”

Action for Sick Children’s Dental Playbox visits to schools and nurseries across the North West have proven to be an effective way of improving child dental care and have won the backing of parents and teachers as well as dentists, the medical community and politicians.

Miss Jackson added: “The expansion of the Dental Playbox initiative to the Leeds area has been made possible thanks to a generous donation of £30,000 from Denplan, part of the Simplyhealth Group. We had already identified Leeds as a priority area for the Dental Playbox due to the high levels of dental decay suffered by children in Yorkshire and this need was underlined by this year’s Channel Four TV documentary ‘Junk Food Kids’.

“However, despite the need for the Dental Playbox and despite having ample funding, we can’t start work on this important project without facilitators. If you are interested in this 12 hours per week job please, please  call Sarah Lynch on 01663 766445 or email: dpbox@actionforsickchildren.org
