SAN FRANCISCO - April 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Regroup, the leading group messaging provider, defends its trademark by serving a cease and desist letter to the not-yet-launched group messaging app Regroupd, with which Khloe Kardashian is "heavily involved," according to Business Insider. It was reported by TMZ that Kardashian missed her sister’s birthday last weekend to host a private party at Coachella promoting the new app.

Moving to protect its brand, Regroup announced today it will be serving the team behind Regroupd with a cease and desist order alleging trademark infringement. Members of the Regroupd team include Lindsey Cummins and reality TV star Khloe Kardashian.

After being contacted by several individuals reporting confusion about the soon-to-be launched group messaging app named Regroupd, Regroup, the leader in the group messaging space, decided to take action. The strikingly similar name, logo and product led these individuals to believe the Regroupd messaging app was connected with Regroup.

“Starting a group messaging app called Regroupd would be like starting a social networking company called Facebookd. Both Regroup and Facebook are protected under trademark law," said Regroup CEO, Joe DiPasquale.

Law prohibits a confusingly similar trademark from being used for a similar product. Infringement can carry both civil and criminal punishment when intentionally trading counterfeit goods and services. Both Regroup and Regroupd offer services described as “group messaging,” using domain names that only differ by one letter: www.regroup.com versus www.regroupd.com. Regroup has owned the domain since 2006 and held the trademark, #3893387, since 2010.

Regroup’s CEO explained that he is serving a cease and desist letter in an attempt to resolve the matter amicably. “I think it’s great that Ms. Cummins and Ms. Kardashian are starting a new venture and I wish them luck. That said, we must protect the integrity of our brand.”
