April 24, 2015 - PRLog -- The California Women in Agriculture, Ventura Chapter, will be hosting its 13th annual Farm Day from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 12, at Junipero Serra Elementary School, 8880 Halifax St., Ventura.

At Farm Day, representatives of local agriculture companies and members of farming families will address about 800 students, teaching them how food reaches their table and the role of the farmer. This is always a fun-filled day and a real hands-on opportunity for students to learn about agriculture and its many facets.

“The contribution of women in agriculture is a valuable one. Farm Day gives us a chance to not only educate young people about agriculture and its profound effect on all of our everyday lives, but it allows students to come face-to-face with all aspects of Ventura County agriculture, presented by some of the leading Ventura County women in farming,” said organizer Mary Vanoni.

The demonstrations and activities--all relating to local agriculture-- will address such topics as water; pests; herbicides, animals -- horse, steer, pig, goat, sheep, chicken, turkey, crops--berries, lemon, avocado, kale, etc.; irrigation; harvesting; planting, healthy eating; honey/bees, Ventura County’s top 10 crops; tractors old and new and more.
