April 5, 2015 - PRLog -- Birmingham, AL – April 06, 2015 – Birmingham based organization, Three Hots & A Cot is expanding operations to develop Fort Comfort Veterans Village in Ash Fork, Arizona.  The proposed Veterans Village will be located on Historic Route 66 near Ash Fork & Seligman Arizona.  The organization has reached out to each of the 32 NFL team owners to sponsor this much needed initiative to serve our nations veterans.  Each owner is challenged to contribute $75,000 to this effort.  When each owner contributes they will have raised $2,400,000 to serve the men and women who have served our nation.  Fort Comfort will offer affordable housing in a gated community for our veterans (and spouses).  Units will be available to accommodate veterans with disabilities.  At Fort Comfort our veterans will find the camaraderie in a community of their brothers and sisters who have also served our nation.  Primary issues addressed at Fort Comfort will be affordable and sustainable housing for US Military veterans.  This is an underserved and disadvantaged population.  Many of our post 9/11 veterans are surviving on disability income or retirement income that is at or below the federal poverty level.   There are surviving spouses of those that paid the ultimate sacrifice for this nation whose income is limited to survivor benefits.   There are many veterans who are in need of the support of a caring community of those who share in the experiences of one who has served in the military.  A network of a supportive community will help many veterans recapture their own independence and provide the community many need to excel in their own lives.

When asked what they would do if they exceeded the goal of $2,400,000 – President of Fort Comfort Veterans Village JD Simpson said “Simple – this would give us enough to build about 40 homes for our veterans – if we go over – we build more homes.”  They hope to exceed this goal with the support of the NFL owners and NFL fans around the country.

About Three Hots & A Cot

Three Hots & A Cot is a 501c3 nonprofit formed by veterans to serve veterans who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless.  JD Simpson – President & Founder of Three Hots & A Cot / Fort Comfort Veterans Village says, “Our primary mission at Three Hots & A Cot is to assist homeless military veteran’s transition from life on the streets into a self-sustained lifestyle and to provide all veterans with affordable housing.  Fort Comfort Veterans Village will focus on providing permanent and affordable housing.  In 2009 my wife, a friend of ours, and myself took $37, loaded a U-Haul and moved to Alabama from northern Virginia to help veterans.  We ran into our share of skeptics in the early days, those who said we did not have the funding, the skills or the experience to do what we wanted to do.  Six years later our skeptics are few and far between.  In six years we have helped nearly 600 veterans move into affordable housing.”  Three Hots & A Cot was one of 25 out of nearly 46,000 nonprofits that serve veterans that was selected to take part in a study with President George W.  Bush and his Military Service Initiative through the George W. Bush Presidential Center.  This effort provided a tool kit for other nonprofits in the country to better serve Post 9/11 veterans.  Please see their website at www.veteran-village.org for more information on Fort Comfort Veterans Village, also their web site www.cotsforvets.org for the work they have successfully completed and continue to do in Alabama.
