It’s Time to Cleanup Our Local Streams

BEDMINSTER, N.J. - March 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Raritan Headwaters Association (RHA) is looking for volunteers for its 25th Annual Stream Cleanup to be held on Saturday, April 18th from 9 am until noon.

Each spring, as part of its Earth Day observances, RHA organizes cleanup teams along the banks of the North and South Branches of the Raritan River and its tributaries. Volunteers of all ages are invited to join the effort to remove man-made debris that is clogging local waterways and threatening our drinking water supplies and wildlife habitat. This event is one supported by Raritan River Week, April 18th – 25th, which was established to show a unity in the efforts of organizations and towns “From the Headwaters to the Ocean.”

Last year’s RHA Stream Cleanup was a huge success as 1,000 scouts, church groups, community clubs, environmental commissions, and businesses joined individuals and families to pull 11 tons of trash from 35 sites along stream banks in Hunterdon, Morris, and Somerset Counties. Some volunteers kept scorecards of the items that were collected and reported finding 1,200 plastics bottles, 618 glass bottles, 602 plastic shopping bags, and 579 metal cans!
