March 2, 2015 - PRLog -- With the paperback edition of his novel, Kaya Abaniah and the Forest, released 1st March 2015, Wayne Gerard Trotman is on a personal mission to educate and raise awareness for wildlife and heritage conservation.

“Kaya Abaniah and the Father of the Forest is a unique coming of age, science fiction, adventure story. It is presented with much of the dialogue in authentic Trinidadian Creole and combines legends and characters from Trinidad and Tobago folklore with the themes of wildlife conservation, redemption, and forgiveness,” states Trotman.

Wayne Gerard Trotman is a British writer, filmmaker, artist, photographer, blogger, composer and producer of electronic music. He grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, a two-island Caribbean Republic with a cosmopolitan population, rich heritage, and diverse wildlife. He excelled at creativity, and track and field, from an early age – attributes he shares with Kaya Abaniah, the protagonist of his latest novel. His parents and several close relatives were teachers, and he studied at Presentation College, San Fernando – one of Trinidad and Tobago’s finest institutions of learning. As a teenager, living in Trinidad, Trotman received national awards and recognition for his creativity. His oil painting entitled, San Fernando Hill on a Rainy Day, was awarded in the What Makes Trinidad and Tobago Beautiful Competition, and his poster and slogan, ‘Alcohol Kills Family Life’ won a government-sponsored award.

In 1984, Trotman moved to London, England and studied at the Heatherley School of Fine Art. Founded in 1845, it is the oldest independent art school in London. During his first month at Heatherley, Trotman’s acrylic painting entitled, Psychedelic Eric was selected for exhibition by the Greater London Council (GLC) London Youth Festival. In 1985, his first film, London: Metropolis of the Future, was chosen from hundreds of entrants for the British Short Film Festival. His often quoted tagline: ‘The future begins today’ is from this film, which without dialogue or narrative structure produces a dream-like and futuristic view of London. In 1998, Trotman, who is trained in several martial arts disciplines, directed, co-produced, scored and edited the British independent film, Ashes to Ashes— arguably the world’s first digital feature film and Britain’s first martial arts movie. He also played the film’s lead role of Gabriel Darbeaux performing all his own stunts using real martial arts weapons, including the nunchaku or two-piece rod.

In 2006, Trotman co-produced a training DVD, which tackles the root cause of anxiety and panic attacks: the fight or flight response. Between 2006 and 2009, he wrote his first critically acclaimed science fiction novel: Veterans of the Psychic Wars; and in 2012 he released the eBook, Ashes to Ashes: Screenplay. Also in 2012, Trotman became Kingston upon Thames Adult Intellectual Chess Champion, in what was his first and only British chess tournament. A self-taught musician, Trotman has composed produced and performed seven music albums. January 2014 saw him at number 1, on the Reverbnation electronica chart for the UK and 6th globally. He has maintained a Top 40 presence throughout 2014.

With over 40 years of experience in photography, Trotman has produced thousands of images including a viral photograph of Tobago’s Nylon Pool, and he is among the most quoted authors of Caribbean origin. He lives with his wife and two sons in Kinston upon Thames, Greater London.

The paperback edition of Wayne Gerard Trotman’s second novel, Kaya Abaniah and the Father of the Forest, was released on 1st March 2015, with the hardback editions of Veterans of the Psychic Wars and Kaya Abaniah and the Father of the Forest due for a 14th March release.

“The novel took me five years to write and most of that time was spent in historical, scientific, and conservation research. I learnt a lot about the historical, cultural and ecological diversity of Trinidad and Tobago, which was pleasantly surprising. There are animals and plants unique to these small islands. The endangered leatherback turtle lays her eggs on the sandy shores of Trinidad, it is home to the ocelot, possibly the most beautiful of the world’s wildcats, and it is the land of the scarlet ibis and the hummingbird. Preservation of Trinidad and Tobago’s folklore and cultural heritage, and the conservation of her unique wildlife, while providing thought-provoking entertainment, are the aims of my book,” said Trotman.

Synopsis:
Legends are immortal dreams made flesh…

Kaya Abaniah believes he’s an ordinary fourteen-year-old Paria College student. He lives with his mother on the Caribbean island of Trinidad; he’s passionate about wildlife conservation and has a crush on the prettiest girl in his class. However, one fateful day, Kaya’s life is changed forever when he encounters Papa Bois, a folklore character similar to the Greek god, Pan.

Kaya learns he has the talent. He’s a telepath, and he’s not alone. He discovers that men in black are constantly watching him, Soucouyant, the shape-shifting vampire wants his blood, and his packed lunch is never safe.

Will Kaya succeed in protecting his relatives and friends from the supernatural evils that lurk on the tropic isle? Can he reveal the shape-shifter’s secret identity? And, why on Earth is the most gorgeous girl, he’s ever known, so interested in him?

Follow Kaya’s struggles with love, rivalry, and academic life, as he confronts the terrifying creatures of Trinidad and Tobago’s folklore, and unlocks the shocking mystery of Papa Bois, the father of the forest.

“Were you ever young and in love? Do you like mysteries, action, and adventure? Have you ever longed to visit a tropical paradise? Do you love nature? Do you enjoy learning about different cultures? Have you ever wondered if life exists elsewhere in the universe? Do you have an open mind? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this book is probably for you,” states Trotman.
